Local ranking on Google Maps
I helped build an RPA system that searches Google Maps by keyword and ranks locations across regions.
100sof users analysing their ranking by region
01Problem
Clients wanted to know where their business appears on Google Maps for the keywords that matter to them, in each region.
There was no direct way to get that data, so searches had to be automated.
02Constraints
- Many searches per client, per keyword and per region. They could not all run at once.
- Results had to be stored in a form the platform could show as a comparison across regions.
03What I did
- I contributed to an RPA service in Python that runs keyword searches on Google Maps and records where each location ranks.
- Searches are scheduled as tasks on RabbitMQ queues, so workers process them at a steady pace.
- The results feed the platform, where users see their impact across regions.
04Trade-offs
Queues add infrastructure, but they let us control the search rate and scale workers independently.
Automated searches are slower than an API would be. There was no API for this data, so it was the only option.
05Result
Hundreds of users could see and analyse their business ranking across regions.
